Haverfordwest County AFC secured a 1-0 home win over Holywell Town in the Cymru Premier on Friday night. Ben Ahmun's 23rd-minute goal proved decisive at the Bridge Meadow Stadium.
The hosts took control early and got their reward midway through the first half. A move down the right flank ended with Ahmun finding space inside the box and firing a low shot past the Holywell keeper. That solitary strike was enough to separate the sides, with the County defence holding firm under late pressure to secure a second consecutive league victory.
Manager Wayne Jones praised his team's resilience after the match. "The lads showed real character to see it out," he said. "It's a big three points for us and builds on the momentum from last week."
The result moves Haverfordwest County up to 11th place in the Premier League, with 10 points from their opening nine matches. Their recent form shows three wins, one draw, and one loss from the last five outings, a sequence that includes a 3-1 victory over Briton Ferry and a 2-1 win against Trefelin.
This win continues a positive spell for the Bluebirds. Before the Holywell game, they defeated Briton Ferry 3-1 at home, with goals from Dan Hawkins, Corey Shephard, and Rio Abbruzzese overturning an early deficit. That followed a 1-1 draw away at GAP Connah's Quay. The only recent setback was a 2-0 loss at Llandudno in late August. The team has now scored seven goals this season while conceding 14.
With the next fixture not until an away trip to 14th-placed Ammanford AFC on October 30th, Jones and his squad have a period to work on the training ground. The full schedule of upcoming matches is available on the club's fixtures page.
Ben Ahmun's match-winning contribution was the obvious highlight. The defensive unit, marshalled by captain Jazz Richards, delivered a clean sheet against a Holywell side that had scored in their previous three matches. Goalkeeper Zac Jones made several important saves in the second half to preserve the lead. For details on the entire squad, supporters can view the squad list. The victory provides a solid platform as Haverfordwest County look to climb the table before their next league assignment in six weeks' time.
