Haverfordwest County AFC will look to use the Welsh Cup as a platform to halt a poor run of form when they host Cardiff Corinthians this Saturday. The Round of 64 tie at Bridge Meadow Stadium kicks off at 14:00 and offers a welcome distraction from their league struggles.
The Bluebirds sit 12th in the Cymru Premier with 10 points from 13 games, having lost four of their last five matches. Their most recent outing was a 2-1 home defeat to Caernarfon Town last Friday, where Ben Ahmun's 83rd-minute equaliser was quickly cancelled out by a Sam Bradley winner.
That lineup featured Knott in goal behind a back four of Hawkins, Rees, Abbruzzese and Shephard. The midfield trio was Jack Wilson, Shephard and Kai Whitmore, with Ben Ahmun, Thomas and Jack Wilson completing the attack.
Their recent results make for grim reading. Before the Caernarfon loss, they were beaten 1-0 at home by Flint Town United and suffered single-goal away defeats to Cardiff MET and Colwyn Bay. Their only win in the last five league games was a 1-0 victory over Holywell in mid-September.
Cardiff Corinthians, the visitors, compete in the Ardal Leagues South West, which sits at the third tier of the Welsh football pyramid. They have had a mixed start to their own league campaign, sitting mid-table. They secured their place in this round with a 3-1 victory over Cwmbran Celtic in the previous stage. Key players for the Corinthians include striker Liam Edwards, who has been among the goals this season, and experienced midfielder Tomos Morris.
Little recent data is available on the visitors from the third-tier Ardal Leagues, making their current strength something of an unknown quantity. This adds an element of unpredictability to the cup clash. The Corinthian's style is typically described as hard-working and physical, which could pose a different challenge to Haverfordwest's usual Cymru Premier opponents.
A positive result is seen as vital for squad confidence ahead of a key league trip to face 13th-placed Ammanford AFC on October 30th. The club has emphasised the importance of a strong cup run to generate momentum and additional revenue. Ticket information for the match is available on the Haverfordwest County AFC website, with discounts for season ticket holders.
